Development Picture

A first-ring suburb of Minneapolis with little room left for development, Golden Valley's population of 20,281 is expected to grow just slightly in the next 20 years. Currently, the number of households in Golden Valley has increased to about 8,500 units. The housing market remains strong because of the City's excellent location and reputation for good schools, parks, and services. As a result, the housing stock is continually reinvigorated with infill development (demolition of existing housing for new housing) and upgrades to existing homes.

Golden Valley's proximity to downtown Minneapolis and its access to four major arterial roadways make it a prime commercial and industrial location. In fact, there are about 30,000 full-time jobs within the City--more per capita than any other City in the metropolitan area. While Golden Valley benefits from these amenities, 15% of the city (more than 1,035 acres) is devoted to parks and open space.
